As part of its “Court Community Connections” program, the Michigan Supreme Court will hear oral argument in People v. Jeffrey Scott Armstrong at Northern Michigan University – Northern Center, 540 W. Kaye Ave. in Marquette, on Tuesday, September 24, beginning at 9 a.m. (argument will begin promptly at 10 a.m.). Student debriefing sessions led by Supreme Court Chief Commissioner Daniel C. Brubaker will be held before and after oral arguments. There will also be a community activity led by the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Drummers.

In addition to hearing oral arguments at the Michigan Hall of Justice in Lansing, justices and staff travel to communities statewide as part of the “Court Community Connections” program, which the court started as a public education program aimed primarily at high school students. This will be the 30th time the court has traveled to hear a case at another location.

Along with Michigan Supreme Court justices and Dickinson County, Houghton County, and Marquette County judges, students from the following schools will be participating in the 30th “Court
Community Connections” program:

• Gwinn High School

• Ishpeming High School

• Marquette High School

• Negaunee High School

• North Star Academy

• Republic/Michigamme School

• Westwood High School

Online streaming of oral arguments and other hearings will start shortly before hearings begin; audio will be muted until justices take their seats. Streaming will begin only while the court is in session and on the bench.

MAJ to conduct 17th Annual Golf Outing Oct. 7

The Michigan Association for Justice is hosting its 17th Annual Golf Outing on Monday, October 7, at Dearborn Country Club, 800 N. Military St. in Dearborn.

The outing begins with breakfast at 9 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Lunch will be provided at the turn and appetizers, drinks, and prizes will immediately follow. The outing is hosted/sponsored by MAJ Past President Brian McKeen and Terry Cochran.
