FBA?hosts State of the Court lunch


The Eastern District of Michigan Chapter of the Federal Bar Association will kick off its Luncheon Series with the annual “State of the Court” address on Wednesday, September 25, from 11:15 to 1 p.m. at the Atheneum Hotel and International Conference Center, 1000 Brush Avenue in Detroit.

The featured speaker will be U.S. District Court Chief Judge Sean Cox, Eastern District of Michigan, who will discuss the annual highlights, initiatives, and accomplishments of the District Court.

‘Handling Cases with Children’ focus of webinar Sept. 20


The Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan’s Child Abuse Prosecution Resources (CAPR) will present a webinar on “Handling Cases with Children” Friday, September 20, from noon to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom.

CAPR Director Pamela Maas will discuss accommodations prosecutors can make for child witnesses, how to prepare a child witnesses, and strategies for presenting their testimony in court.

Constitution Day celebrated at courthouse Sept. 13


Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Michael Warren will host an in-person Constitution Day program with local students starting at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, September 13, in the Board of Commissioners auditorium located at the Oakland County Courthouse, 1200 N. Telegraph Rd. in Pontiac. 

The program, honoring the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution, will feature guest attendee Michigan Supreme Court Justice Richard Bernstein. “This is what the law is truly about,” said Bernstein.  

“We are most pleased to host, engage and help educate over 300 students in our founding First Principles, Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution,” said Warren, co-founder of the activity and of Patriot Week. “If we wish to remain a free People, it is vitally important that we all learn and celebrate what makes America the greatest nation in world history. Patriot Week and Constitution Day do exactly that.”
