‘Overview of Traffic Crash Reconstruction’ offered online

The Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan will present the Traffic Safety Training Program Webinar “An Overview of Traffic Crash Reconstruction” on Thursday, October 10, from noon to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom.

Impaired driving cases many times involve crashes that result in serious injuries and/or fatalities. A detailed investigation of the crash can be critical to helping a prosecutor prove their case in court where a crash has occurred. The Michigan State Police’s Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit has been around since the 1970s. The goal of the unit is to accurately determine how a crash occurred based on gathering facts at the scene and applying physics to those facts.

This webinar will provide prosecutors, law enforcement officers, and other traffic safety partners with a better understanding of the following topics:

• A basic overview of the MSP Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit.

• The different levels of crash investigators in law enforcement.

• The callout process when a crash occurs.

• The tools of the trade.

• Event Data Recorders (EDRs) and what data is recorded and can be recovered

• How to prepare with your crash investigator for court.

The webinar will be presented by Michigan State Police Specialist Sergeant Chad R. Lindstrom.
