Law firm presents seminar addressing campus protests, board/administration relations

Higher education institutions often need a playbook to keep up with a wide range of issues including campus protests and Board/ Administration Relations.

In response, the Butzel Education Team will host a half-day seminar featuring education industry practitioners and leaders who will share best practices and more.

Butzel invites higher education professionals to a discussion of complex issues from 1:30 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at the firm’s office located in the Columbia Center, 201 W. Big Beaver Rd. in Troy. The firm’s Education Industry co-chairs, Carey DeWitt and Lynn McGuire are hosting the program.

The first panel presentation will feature special guests (and their areas of focus) including:

• Campus Protests – Brian Quinn, vice president for Legal Affairs and General Counsel, Michigan State University

• Title IX Investigations – Brett Meyer, general counsel, Grand Rapids Community College

• Hiring the President – Keith James, attorney, Keith James PLLC and Board of Trustees, Member, Albion College

The second panel presentation will feature special guests (and their areas of focus) including:

• Board/ Administration Relations – Eunice Jeffries, executive director, Government and Community Relations and Continuing Education at Oakland Community College, and regent, Board of Regents at Eastern Michigan
University

• Faculty Issues and Relations – Pamela Zarkowski, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs: University of Detroit Mercy

• Student Discipline – Jeffrey Steele, general counsel, Macomb Community College

Networking will immediately follow the program (including beverages and small bites).
