Metal detector discussion takes place at C-S school board meeting

After a request to the Climax-Scotts School District to consider using metal detectors to enhance school security was offered, brief discussion but no action was taken by the C-S Board of Education at the September 23 meeting.

C-S Superintendent Doug Newington said discussion on social media prompted the district to offer an invitation to the September 23 meeting for further discussion, but no one attended to talk about the subject. Newington said no future discussions are scheduled.

Dr. Dedrick Martin, KRESA Superintendent, was introduced to the board and talked about his vision for supporting local districts and Heather Kortlandt, the new director of the Kalamazoo Area Math and Science Center, provided an overview of the program along with their goals.

Newington updated the board on the ongoing bond project and said the science classrooms and lab at the C-S Jr./Sr. High School are scheduled to be completed on October 18.

Bond work on the baseball and softball fields at the high school is  taking shape nicely.

Bond work at the C-S Elementary School in Scotts is also well underway.
