Ambassador John Sullivan, former U.S. ambassador to the Russian Federation, will speak at an American Bar Association Standing Committee on Law and National Security luncheon from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the University Club in Washington, D.C.
Sullivan, who was on the embassy front lines when Putin invaded Ukraine, will discuss his new book, “Midnight in Moscow: A Memoir from the Front Lines of Russia’s War Against the West.”
The memoir is a behind-the-scenes account of the invasion through the lens of international relations and strategic negotiations. Sullivan’s account sheds light on what was, what is, and what is to come of U.S and Russia relations and the possible
implications it could have on the upcoming U.S. election.
Sullivan is a distinguished scholar at Georgetown School of Foreign Service and at the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia.
He is a partner at Mayer Brown and a member of the bipartisan congressional Commission on Reform and Modernization of the Department of State. Prior to his service in Moscow, Sullivan was the U.S. deputy secretary of state.
Having served in prominent diplomatic and legal positions under five presidents, he was the U.S. Ambassador to the Russian Federation from 2019-2022. He has served for over four decades in both public and private sectors.
