Sterling Heights man sentenced to life without parole for the murder of his girlfriend

Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Matthew Sabaugh has sentenced Jason Ross to life without the possibility of parole to the Michigan Department of Corrections for the brutal murder of his girlfriend. 

On Sept. 4, 50-year-old Jason Ross was found guilty of killing his girlfriend by a Macomb County jury after a 10-day jury trial by Assistant Prosecutors Elizabeth Abbo and Kelsey Heath.
Court records show that, on Saturday, July 24, 2021, Jason Ross murdered his 47-year-old girlfriend, Kathleen Hales, by stabbing her multiple times and hitting her with a hammer in their home in Sterling Heights.  

Ross hid the body and fled with the victim’s credit cards, prescription drugs, and her car.  He was apprehended in Prescott, MI with one of the murder weapons and the victim’s belongings.

Ross was found guilty of First Degree Murder, a life without parole felony, Larceny from a Building, a four year felony, Unlawful Driving Away a Motor Vehicle, a five year felony, and Stealing a Financial Transaction Device without Consent, a four year felony.
