‘Roaring at the Lakeshore:
Muskegon in the 1920s’ set November 5
This engaging lecture will explore the unique experiences of Muskegon during the electrifying 1920s.
Staff from the Lakeshore Museum will bring the era to life, delving into the local stories and trends that mirrored the national "Jazz Age." Discover how the lumber and manufacturing industries shaped Muskegon's economy and culture, the rise of leisure activities like movie theaters, dance halls, and the burgeoning popularity of automobiles, the impact of national trends like flapper fashion and jazz music on the local scene, and the everyday lives of Muskegon residents, from factory workers to shopkeepers to socialites.
Registration required. This program is part of the Big Read Lakeshore 2024 and has been inspired by “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald. This program will be held at Community United Methodist Church (1614 Ruddiman Dr, North Muskegon, MI 49445).

The Muskegon Museum of Art will host this exhibit of 200 pieces of historical jewelry and objects from the late 19th and early 20th centuries through January 5, 2025.
The exhibition, drawn from public and private collections in Chicago, highlights a 19th century jeweled monstrance, a collection of magnificent tiaras, medals of the French kings, gems from the Art Nouveau Movement, and much more.
Featured designers in the exhibit include Louis Comfort Tiffany, Rene Lalique, and Anne Howe Geyer.
