Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer recently announced the appointment of Claudnyse Holloman to the Governor’s Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect.

Governor’s Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect

Holloman is the president and chief executive officer of Voices for Children Advocacy Center and an attorney for Holloman and Holloman Legal Services. She is a licensed attorney with the State Bar of Michigan. Holloman obtained a law degree from Cooley Law School and a Bachelor of Arts in English and political science from Clarke University.

Holloman is appointed as a child advocate, including both attorneys for children and court-appointed special advocates, for a term commencing October 24, 2024, and expiring December 31, 2024. Holloman succeeds Patricia Sabin, who has resigned.     

Created by Executive Order 2013-4, rescinding Executive Order 2010-18, the Governor’s Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect was established within the Department of Human Services and is designed as a multidisciplinary task force for the purposes of the federal Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act. The Task Force consists of 18 members appointed by the Governor for three-year terms who are professionals with knowledge and experience relating to the criminal justice system and issues of child physical abuse, child neglect, child sexual abuse and exploitation, and child maltreatment-related fatalities.

This appointment is not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.

recently announced that it is expanding its Litigation Department with the addition of Valerie Stacey as partner in Detroit. Stacey, who will be part of the firm’s Business Litigation Practice Group, joins from Jones Day.

Stacey focuses her practice on high-stakes commercial litigation and complex tort disputes in state and federal courts across the country, providing strategic guidance to clients in a variety of industries on high-profile, multi-million and -billion-dollar cases. From Ponzi schemes and residential mortgage-backed securities disputes to breach of contract and fiduciary duty claims, Stacey excels in ensuring clients’ interests are protected at every stage of the litigation process.

Stacey brings experience crafting and arguing persuasive motions; conducting and defending fact and expert depositions; managing offensive and defensive discovery; and executing all aspects of the appellate process. In addition to her client work, she has an active pro bono practice counseling asylum seekers, including developing case assessments and preparing refugees for credible fear interviews, as well as first-chairing evidentiary hearings to secure restraining orders.

Stacey earned a law degree from University of Michigan Law School in 2017 and a B.A. from James Madison College at Michigan State University in 2014. She started her career at Robins Kaplan, where she worked closely with first-chair trial lawyers in the firm’s Financial Fraud and E-Discovery practice.
