Man arraigned on charges in Warren gas station shooting

A 45-year old man has been arraigned in connection with a shooting at a Warren Gas Station at Dequindre Rd. and 9 Mile Road.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office alleges that Al Curtis Williams entered a Shell Gas Station and got into a verbal argument with the victim, 38-year old Brandon Zaner.

Williams left the gas station in his vehicle, authorities say. Zaner exited the gas station and walked to the back of the parking lot drinking coffee and looking at his phone.

Williams allegedly returned to the gas station with a handgun, approached Zanner and the two men started fighting. Zaner died after being shot in the chest and approached Zaner. They got into a physical altercation resulting in Williams shooting Zaner once in the chest. Zaner died from his injuries.

Williams was charged with second-degree murder, carrying a concealed weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon and felony firearm.

He was arraigned in 37th Warren District Court where visiting Judge David Draper denied bond. A probable cause hearing is set for Jan. 2.
