WSU resumes online Legal Briefs program


On Wednesday, February 5, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wayne State University Law School will present its latest Legal Briefs program online featuring Tierney Eaton Hoffman, assistant dean of student affairs.

Hoffman has developed a pilot program to study cohort learning and its impact on the academic success and socio-emotional experience of the law school’s first-year Damon J. Keith Scholars.

Hoffman will discuss the programs  she has been leading to bring more individuals from underrepresented groups into the practice of law.

Informed sentencing focus of MJI seminar


The Michigan Judicial Institute is pleased to provide “Understanding Mitigation: A Path to Informed Sentencing Webinar” on Wednesday, Feb. 12, from noon to 1 p.m.

Attendees will discover how considering sentencing mitigation aligns with Michigan sentencing law and provides valuable insight into individuals before the court.

Attendees will gain tools, beyond the sentencing guidelines, to develop fair and informed sentences that uphold justice and demand accountability.

This program is eligible for continuing judicial education (CJE) credit: 1.00 [Judicial Practice & Related Areas].

Five ethics seminars scheduled by SBM


The State Bar of Michigan is offering several webinars throughout 2025 to help attorneys perform their best.

The Tips and Tools webinars feature presentations on how to maintain client relationships, draft effective fee agreements, analyze ethical issues, and use innovative techniques and technology for effective law office management.

Two webinars are planned — from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on April 8 and Oct. 28.

Registration costs $50.

The SBM Lawyer Trust Accounts webinars focus on the ethical management of lawyer trust accounts, including the analysis used in processing client or third-party funds and an in-depth focus on recordkeeping requirements.

Three webinars are planned — from 9 a.m. to noon March 11, June 24 and October 21.

Registration costs $25.
