West Michigan Symphony
to present ‘American Divas’


The West Michigan Symphony will present “American Divas,” 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 28, at The Frauenthal Center.
Vocal powerhouse Shayna Steele returns with her eclectic style of soul and blues honoring the musical divas who inspired her —Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Tina Turner, Ariana Grande, Fleetwood Mac, and more.

The Tony Monaco Trio, a powerhouse in jazz, dazzles with Hammond B3 organ mastery. Monaco’s virtuosic playing, combined with the trio’s dynamic chemistry, delivers soulful and energetic performances that breathe new life into classic jazz standards.


‘Transcending Tradition’
runs through May 11


The Muskegon Museum of Art will host “Transcending Tradition: Selection of works from the Bennett Collection of Women Realists,” February 6 to May 11.

The Bennett Collection is a growing collection of figurative realist paintings by women artists founded by San Antonio art collectors Steven Alan Bennett and Dr. Elaine Melotti Schmidt.

This exhibition highlights work by both historical and contemporary women painters, such as Artemesia Gentileschi, Mary Cassatt, Elaine de Kooning, Andrea Kowch, Zoey Frank, Katie O’Hagan, and many more.

‘Equalitea’ library event set March 24


Celebrate Women's History Month with tea and cookies as Jennifer Reeths and Wendy VanWoerkom of the Lakeshore Museum share the fascinating story of how women rallied for the right to vote in Michigan and across the U.S.

The event is set 6 to 7 p.m., Monday, March 24 at the Norton Shores Branch of the Muskegon Area District Library.
