Climas Township Board: Budget gets approved, road projects included

The Climax Township Board unanimously approved the 2025-2026 fiscal year budget that is over $100,000 less then the about to expire 2024-2025 budget that was approved last March, at its regular meeting March 11.

The new budget shows estimated revenues and expenses at $926,793. The 2024-2025 budget that was approved in March, 2024 showed total income and expenditures at $1,046,024.

Some cost centers that increased in the new budget include the assessor wages moving from $26,575 to $30,575. That brought the overall budget increase in the new assessor cost center to $37,975 from $33,375 in the about to expire budget when it was adopted last March.

The cemetery cost center increased from $47,700 to $54,700.

The biggest reduction in the new budget adopted March 11 is general fund expense that shows $249,405 compared to $395,360 in the budget about to expire.

Another cost center decrease was realized in the Fire Department budget, which went from $158,851 in the adopted 2024-2025 budget to $138,485 that was adopted March 11.

Another small cost center reduction was in the clerk’s budget, which was approved at $35,200 compared to the 24-2025 budget that was adopted showing expenses at $40,200.

There was also a reduction in the new budget for Township Hall and Grounds from $55,350 that was adopted in the about to expire budget to $41,850, due mainly to a $20,000 reduction in building expense and repair in the new budget.

The new budget road maintenance general fund was adopted showing expenses at $240,182.

The millage levy is 3.3104 mills set by the Tax Allocation Board.

9 Road Improvement Projects Reviewed


Nine road improvement projects for 2025 with an estimated cost of $419,182 that was presented by Climax Township Road Commission Chairman Joel Amos was approved when the new budget was approved.

The road projects include:

• 38th Street to O Ave, 5280 feet north 1 mile, crack fill and chip seal at an estimated cost of $39,761.00.

• 39th St. from T Ave. to R Avenue, 2 miles crack fill and chip seal at an estimated cost of $82,523.

• OP Avenue 1 mile between 42nd Street and 44th Street, crack fill and chip seal at an estimated cost of$37,840.

• Q Avenue 1711 feet from County line, 0.3 miles, rubber fill at an estimated cost of $16,443.

• S Avenue 2 miles between 42nd and 47th St., crack fill and chip seal at an estimated cost of $71,047.

• T Avenue 1.5 miles between 36th and 39th St., crack fill and chip seal at an estimated cost of $59,961.

• 46th/PQ Ave. between Q Avenue and 47th St., 0.75 miles gravel resurface with an estimated cost of $38,181.

• 40th St. between R and Q Avenue, 1 mile chip seal and fog seal at an estimated cost of $28,514. Note this project has been agreed to be paid for by Myers Farms.

• ON Ave./39th St., 0.9 miles gravel resurface at an estimated cost of $44,912. This is a contingency project that may or may not be completed in 2025, however the township road committee is committed to do the project in 2026.

The total project expense would be $345,766, which does not include the estimated $28,514 chip seal and fog seal project on 40th Street that will be paid for by Myers Farms, and the ON Ave./39th gravel resurface project estimated to cost $44,912 that is a contingency project that may or may not be completed in 2025. Approximately $82,000 can be used in PAR funds and an additional $97,000 from the Road Millage, leaving $240,182 that will come out of the road maintenance general fund.

Climax Township Fire Department Has 16 Calls for Service


Climax Township Fire Chief Scott Smith said the local fire department had 16 calls for service in February including 11 EMS calls, one dispatch that was cancelled enroute, 2 calls for power lines down, one assist to police, and one carbon monoxide incident. There was also one mutual aide given and one mutual aid received.

In other items unanimously approved by the township board at the March 11 meeting:

• Murat Bates was reappointed to the Zoning Board of Appeals for a two-year term from 4-1-2025 to 3-31-2027.

• Dickson Brubaker and Ranae Brubaker were reappointed to the Planning Commission to three-year terms from 4-1-2025 to 3-31-2028.

• Joel Amos was appointed as a member to the Board of Review to fill a spot that was held by Dana Perrin who resigned a month ago, for a term that expires December 31, 2026.

• Jamie Camp was appointed as a Board of Review alternate.

Jim Cummings was also candidate interested in both positions.
