Butzel and Walsh College have announced a partnership to take entrepreneurship to the next level by offering counsel to startups and emerging businesses within the Walsh College Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
“Walsh College and Butzel are aligned well to support growing companies by providing the critical skills needed for entrepreneurs to succeed,” said Paul Mersino, president and CEO of Butzel. “Butzel has worked with many venture capital firms, startups, incubators and accelerators over the years and looks forward to bringing those experiences to even more in the region.”
While Walsh College continues growing this venture capital initiative, Butzel hopes to offer its expertise in corporate law, intellectual property and other legal matters to startups taking part in the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the affiliated Walsh Ventures.
Butzel and Walsh College will co-present their first Angel Pitch event in April featuring a keynote speaker and micro panel at the Detroit Athletic Club.
Dr. Daniel Sem, executive director of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, said Butzel “is full committed to our mission and has a reputation for excellence” in the legal profession.
“Butzel has helped with patent work for our first AI startup, csiSIM, and will be a great partner as Walsh Ventures helps student, alumni and community businesses launch and grow,” said Sem, who also serves as president of Walsh Ventures.
Butzel was founded in Detroit in 1854. The firm’s full-service law offices are located in Ann Arbor, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Troy and southwest Michigan, as well as New York, Washington, D.C., and global alliance offices affiliated with Lex Mundi, a worldwide association of 160 independent law firms.
Walsh College, founded in 1922, is an undergraduate and graduate institution that provides a business and technology education that combines theory, application, and professional experience to prepare graduates for successful careers. The school offers undergraduate degrees, graduate degrees in marketing, management, human resource management, finance, accounting, data analytics, information technology, artificial intelligence and machine learning, cybersecurity, automotive cybersecurity, a STEM MBA, and an MBA in Organizational Resilience with several concentrations.
Walsh College offers an Organizational Leadership Ph.D., as well as Ph.D. programs in Technology — especially in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
