Justices to hold ‘Court Community Connections’ program April 23

As part of its “Court Community Connections” program, the Michigan Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in People v. Curtis Allen Morris and observe a community activity led by the Lowell High School Performing Arts students on Wednesday, April 23, at 10 a.m. at Lowell High School – Performing Arts Center, 11700 Vergennes St SE in Lowell, Michigan. A student debriefing session will be led by MSC Chief Commissioner Daniel C. Brubaker and Commissioner Liza Moore before and after the oral arguments.

In addition to hearing oral arguments at the Michigan Hall of Justice in Lansing, Justices and staff travel to communities statewide as part of the "Court Community Connections" program, which the Court started as a public education program aimed primarily at high school students. This will be the 31st time the Court has traveled to hear a case at another location.

Along with Michigan Supreme Court justices, Kent County judges, and Ionia County judges, students from the following schools will be participating in the 31st “Court Community Connections” program: Lowell High School; Allendale High School; Cedar Springs High School; Coopersville High School; Greenville High School; Kenowa Hills High School; Sparta High School; Lakewood High School; Belding High School; Ionia High School; and Saranac High School

Online streaming of oral arguments and other hearings will start shortly before hearings begin; audio will be muted until justices take their seats. Streaming will begin only while the court is in session and on the bench.
