Counselor's Corner: The treasure of the present moment

Fred Cavaiani

I realize more each day  that as I simply stay in this present moment, let go of the past and the future, my whole spiritual, emotional, and physical systems will slow down. I then understand better how to gently experience this moment.  My patience and love for others deepen because as I simply embrace this moment, I become more focused on experiencing life. In making a decision to simply embrace this moment, I start experiencing a peace within myself because I am not rushing  to someone else or  to something else. And as I allow my thoughts  to simply focus on this present moment in my life, I experience inner peace and joy.

This peace can only be found when I do this. It is like discovering a treasure in life that lifts me up and also helps me to have such a meaningful experience of God and  the presence of God in everyone and everything.

We can overanalyze life when we put our intellectual effort on the next moment instead of just observing and experiencing what is happening right now. As I type this article with quiet reflection, I become so consoled and peaceful by simply focusing on  this moment. Some of  this is the result of becoming older in my senior, golden years. I then realize more and more how short life is. This awareness helps me to slow down and simply experience the embrace of  this moment. I don’t need to focus on the end of this time spent typing.  But it is so helpful to simply, slowly and gently experience this moment.

It is here in this present moment that a profound experience of God will be discovered and experienced because I am attentive to this moment.

Happiness is not based on how other people like me or don’t like me. It is based on a gentle awareness of the now, which is always based on God loving me and helping me to more focused on God’s presence in the now.

Life is so simple when I simply remain in this moment and become more aware of what is happening around me and what is happening to me in this moment. When I can speak  to others with a kind and gentle heart and mind, we both begin to get an experience of God. I simply need to be gently kind and loving to everyone and slowly embrace and become more aware of  this present moment.

I find and discover a deeper faith in a loving God as I experience what is with me and who is with me in this millisecond of my life. As I type this article, I simply stay focused on experiencing God. As this day passes by, I discover that I do not have rush.  I simply need  to gently experience this present, sacred moment of life. I then become more aware of becoming more open and receptive to the presence of God in this present moment.
