Nominating petitions for 2025 State Bar election due April 30


Nominating petitions for the SBM election are available.  The June election will include:

• A statewide election for a non-judicial member of the Judicial Tenure Commission.

• For 85 members of the Representative Assembly in 48 judicial circuits.

• For seven members of the Board of Commissioners in five commissioner districts.

• For 13 members of the Young Lawyers Section Executive Council in three districts.

Nominating petitions, available online, must be emailed to csharlow@michbar.org no later than April 30.

Online voting will begin no later than June 1, and must be completed online no later than June 16. Ballots will be emailed to active Michigan attorneys at the email address on file. Check or update at michbar.org/MemberArea.

Varnum attorney joins Camp Henry board of directors


Varnum attorney Schuyler Pruis has joined the Board of Directors of Camp Henry, a summer camp in Newaygo, that provides experiences for campers aged 8-17.

Pruis previously spent three summers working at Camp Henry as a counselor.

Pruis is based in the Grand Rapids office and specializes in business and transactional matters as part of the Business and Corporate Practice Team. He helps clients navigate mergers and acquisitions,
advises emerging companies and works with private and family-owned businesses to provide strategic and practical legal advice on a variety of business law issues.

 His practice also includes providing guidance on corporate governance and structuring issues, securities law compliance and other regulatory issues.

Prior to joining Varnum, Pruis gained experience in legal and public sectors.

Pruis earned his undergraduate degree, cum laude, in history and social studies from Calvin University in Grand Rapids, and  his JD from Wake Forest University School of Law in Winston-Salem, NC.
