Kronk and Dunlap to receive Excellence  in Defense Award

The Michigan Defense Trial Counsel (MDTC) has announced that Edward M. Kronk and Peter L. Dunlap have been selected to receive the Eighteenth Annual Excellence in Defense Award. They will be honored Saturday, May 15 at the annual award banquet as a highlight of MDTC’s Annual Meeting and Conference being held at The Doubletree Hotel in Bay City.

The award was established by MDTC to honor the most prominent of civil defense counsel who have throughout their careers demonstrated superior professionalism and advocacy skills and who have contributed significantly to his or her communities and the defense trial bar.

Kronk is a shareholder based in Butzel Long’s Detroit office and is past co-chair of the firm's Litigation Department. He joined Butzel Long as an associate in 1971 after earning his J.D. from The University of Michigan that year.

Dunlap joined Fraser Trebilcock Davis & Dunlap, P.C. in 1967. His areas of practice include Alternative Dispute Resolution, Legal Malpractice, Products Liability, Personal Injury Litigation and Professional Responsibility.


Attorney appointed to state’s Snowmobile and Trails Advisory Council

John P. Gonway, a shareholder at Maddin, Hauser, Wartell, Roth & Heller P.C., a Southfield, Michigan-based law firm, has been appointed to the Snowmobile and Trails Advisory Council by Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm.

Recently created under an executive order by Gov. Granholm, the Council advises the governor and state Department of Natural Resources and Environment on state trails.  His ultimate goal is to make an impact on the responsible expansion of access for non-motorized trail users, which includes bikers, hikers and equestrians. Gonway’s term expires on January 17, 2014.

Gonway was recently elected to the position of Director of Advocacy of the Michigan Mountain Biking Association. Additionally, he is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and its Real Property, Business Law and Taxation sections, and is a member of the Oakland County Bar Association.

He concentrates his practice on complex real estate and commercial transactions. His experience includes the acquisition, financing, construction, development and leasing of all types of commercial real estate, as well as the representation of clients in all aspects of corporate law, commercial law, mergers and acquisitions and commercial transactions.
 

‘Call for Action’ seeks volunteer attorneys

Volunteer attorneys are being sought by WXYZ-TV Channel 7’s Call for Action.

Every Thursday volunteer attorneys come to the Channel 7 offices to answer incoming calls regarding legal matters from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The attorneys remain anonymous to callers and do not take cases for themselves.  They refer callers to bar associations and give general legal information.
