Appointments to Attorney Grievance Commission announced
The Michigan Supreme Court has announced the following appointments to the Attorney Grievance Commission:
Kent J. Vana of Grand Rapids, attorney and of counsel to the law firm of Varnum Riddering Schmidt & Howlett, LLP, is reappointed chairperson of the AGC for a term ending October 1, 2011.
Martha D. Moore of Ann Arbor, attorney and associate professor at Thomas M. Cooley Law School, is reappointed as vice-chairperson of the AGC for a term ending October 1, 2011.
David L. Porteous of Reed City, attorney and principal in the law firm of McCurdy Wotila & Porteous, PC, is reappointed to a term ending October 1, 2013.
Barbara B. Smith, of Bloomfield Hills, attorney in the law firm of Barbara B. Smith PLLC, is appointed for a term ending October 1, 2013.
The AGC, which was established in 1978 by order of the Michigan Supreme Court, investigates and prosecutes attorney misconduct cases. The nine members of the AGC serve on a voluntary basis. The AGC also employs staff that includes attorneys and investigators.
Retirement party set for Circuit Court judge
A retirement party for Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Jack McDonald will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at The Reserve, 325 South Eton, in Birmingham.
The festivities will begin at 6 p.m. with dinner scheduled at 7 o’clock, the program at 8, and dessert at 9. There will be entertainment as an added feature of the party.

A member of the Circuit Court bench since 1993, Judge Jack McDonald served on the Oakland County Board of Commissioners for seven terms. An alumnus of the Detroit College of Law, Judge McDonald is a former assistant prosecutor in Oakland County.
Trott & Trott receives association award for community service
Trott & Trott, P.C., a Farmington Hills-based law firm serving the mortgage banking industry, has been named the recipient of the National Association of Retail Collection Attorneys (NARCA) 2010 Community Service Award.
The Community Service Award, presented annually at the NARCA Fall Conference, is given to the law firm that best demonstrates an implementation of activities and overall firm commitment toward the betterment of its community.
In honor of the award, NARCA will donate $1,000 to Trott & Trott’s charity of choice.
