LAD dresses holiday gift dolls for Detroit Goodfellows

Employees of Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc. (LAD) dressed eight dozen holiday gift dolls for the annual “No Kiddie Without a Christmas” program sponsored by the Old Newsboys’ Goodfellow Fund of Detroit.

This year, Detroit Goodfellows purchased 12,000 dolls for distribution to needy girls aged 4 through 11 in Detroit, Hamtramck, Highland Park and River Rouge this holiday season, President Bob Carabelli said.

“Volunteers from many different community groups dress the dolls in a variety of outfits and return them to the Detroit Goodfellows for packaging and distribution to the children,” Carabelli said.

Detroit Goodfellows’ doll designer, JoAnn Butkowski, conducted a workshop at LAD’s Detroit office to assistant employees of LAD and the Federation of Youth Services (FYS), according to Tanya Cleveland, LAD’s vice president of facilities management and coordinator of its doll program.  FYS employees dressed two dozen dolls for the program, she said.

Legal Aid and Defender is Michigan's largest provider of free civil legal services to low-income residents.  It serves metropolitan Detroit through its offices in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties.
