Van Dusen appointed to Committee on Model Civil Jury Instructions
The Michigan Supreme Court has appointed Bodman PLC Attorney Thomas Van Dusen to the Committee on Model Civil Jury Instructions, which drafts standard instructions for juries in civil cases.
The committee is composed of 21 judges and attorneys who ensure that model civil jury instructions used in Michigan courts are concise, understandable, conversational, unslanted, and not argumentative. The committee also has the authority to amend or repeal existing instructions and, when appropriate, adopt new instructions.
Van Dusen, who practices in Bodman’s Troy office, is a member of the Litigation & Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice Group.
Van Dusen is listed in The Best Lawyers in America under Commercial Litigation and in Michigan Super Lawyers under Business Litigation. He is AV Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell. He is a member of the American Arbitration Association, National Diocesan Attorneys Association, and the Oakland County’s Circuit Court’s Case Evaluator Panel. Van Dusen is a cum laude graduate of the University of Michigan Law School.

Law Day event slated at U.S. District Court
The U.S. District Court, the Eastern District of Michigan Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, and the Wolverine Bar Association are jointly hosting a Law Day open house on Monday, May 2
The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Theodore Levin U.S. District Courthouse, 231 W. Lafayette, in Detroit. The theme of Law Day 2011 is “The Legacy of John Adams: from Boston to Guantanamo,” and will highlight the nation’s first lawyer-president.
The complimentary program is open to the public and includes an “Ask the Lawyer” pro bono component. Registration for the “Ask the Lawyer” program is on the first floor in the alcove just past Courtroom 100.
Also at the open house will be bomb-sniffing dogs, as well as exhibits on counterfeit currency and confiscated firearms.

Holiday Hours
Be advised that the Wayne County Probate Court will close at noon in observance of Good Friday on Friday, April 22 and will reopen on Monday, April 25 at 8 a.m.
The 36th District Court will be closed to the public on Friday April 22 in observance of Good Friday. 
The Wayne County Clerk’s Office will close Friday, April 22, at noon in observance of Good Friday. Note: Campaign Finance — CAYMC, Room 502, will remain open until 5 p.m.
The Third Circuit Court Civil, Criminal and Family Divisions will close at noon on Friday, April 22, in observance of Good Friday.
