Bench Mates

The Complex Commercial Litigation Committee of the Federal Bar Association, Eastern District of Michigan Chapter, presented “Conducting Settlement or Trial in a Complex Case—A Discussion with the Bench” on Monday, March 19, at the T. Levin U.S. Courthouse in Detroit. 

The first panel discussion featured U.S. District Court Chief Judge Gerald Rosen, Eastern District of Michigan; Layn R. Phillips, former U.S. attorney and federal judge; and U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Mark Radon, Eastern District of Michigan. 

The trio discussed effective techniques and the unique issues faced in trying to settle complex cases. The second panel, consisting of U.S. District Court Judges Denise Page Hood, Arthur Tarnow, and John C. O’Meara, talked about the issues relating to jury and bench trials in complex litigation.
