Flint DOJ: City to make polls accessible to disabled FLINT, Mich. (AP) -- Flint is promising to make sure all its polling places are accessible to people with disabilities in time for the November presidential election under a deal with the U.S. Department of Justice. The department said Monday that the agreement with Flint comes under the Americans with Disabilities Act. The department says it investigated after getting a complaint from the Michigan Protection and Advocacy Service that some Flint's polls were inaccessible to people with disabilities. Flint also agrees to make accessibility a major factor in choosing future polling places. The Justice Department says it will give "technical assistance to the city in deciding whether a polling place location can be made accessible" by election day. Jackson Report goes into Arby's worker's finger injury JACKSON, Mich. (AP) -- A health department report says three to four sandwiches might have been made at a Michigan Arby's restaurant before an employee reported to management she had sliced her finger. The Jackson County health department report was obtained by the Jackson Citizen Patriot via a Freedom of Information Act request. The newspaper said Monday the report indicates the woman cut herself at the Jackson restaurant about the time 14-year-old Ryan Hart found a piece of finger in his roast beef sandwich on May 11. The report says the employee hurt herself on a meat slicer and left for one to two minutes to get a towel to wrap her hand. In a statement last week, an Arby's spokesman called the finger in the sandwich an "isolated and unfortunate accident." Wyoming High school student charged in crash that killed 2 WYOMING, Mich. He's being held in the Kent County Jail on $50,000 bond and faces a May 30 hearing. Wyoming District Court says Tuesday he's requested a court-appointed attorney. Police in the Grand Rapids suburb of Wyoming say the pre-dawn crash killed 15-year-old Krysta Howell and 17-year-old Timothy See. They say the injured passengers are 18-year-olds Trenton Lampbright and Huy Nguyen and 16-year-old Dylan Stanaway. All six involved attended Wyoming Park High School. A judge on Monday sentenced Aaron Feliu of Ovid in Clinton County Circuit Court in St. Johns on a manslaughter charge. Feliu also was ordered to pay more than $15,000 in restitution. An autopsy determined that 18-year-old David Grant was shot in the back and died in December of internal bleeding. He initially appeared to be having trouble breathing after smoking synthetic marijuana. Before being sentenced, Feliu apologized and said he wished he could switch places with Grant. Feliu originally was charged with second-degree murder. Flint Official: Flood damage at 1,700 homes, businesses FLINT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- An official says damage has been reported to at least 1,700 homes and businesses following flooding earlier this month in Genesee County. The Flint Journal reports Jennifer Boyer, the county's emergency management coordinator, told Flint Township board members on Monday night that at least 800 of those homes and businesses were in Flint Township. State, local and federal officials last week surveyed damage. The review came after Gov. Rick Snyder declared a state of emergency, which makes state resources available to address remaining threats to public health and safety. The storm started May 3 and dumped more than 5 inches of rain in and around Flint. There's hope the area will get federal aid to help recover from the flooding. Published: Wed, May 23, 2012
