National Legal Services Corporation honors six Michigan attorneys
The national Legal Services Corporation (LSC) Board of Directors honored six Michigan lawyers at an event on Thursday, July 26, for their volunteer work with LSC-funded legal aid programs. An awards ceremony and reception were held at the University of Michigan Law School. State Bar of Michigan President Julie I. Fershtman gave remarks. The pro bono service award recipients are:
• Charles Borgsdorf, attorney with Hooper Hathaway, member of the Legal Services of South Central Michigan board of directors, and 2010 recipient of the State Bar of Michigan’s Champion of Justice Award;
• Elizabeth Joy Fossel – Partner in the Grand Rapids office of Varnum LLP, and an 18-year volunteer attorney with Legal Aid of Western Michigan;
• Nino E. Green – Chairman of the board of Legal Services of Northern Michigan and an early pioneer of the state’s pro bono movement;
• Karen Luther – Former senior corporate counsel at Beaumont Hospital, where she helped found the Legal Aid for Children program with Detroit’s Legal Aid and Defender Association;                      
• Hon Angela Kay Sherigan – Managing partner at Wojnecka & Sherigan, associate judge for the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians, and pro bono volunteer with Michigan Indian Legal Services; and
• Michael R. Stanley – Former business owner who attended both college and law school after losing his sight, volunteer attorney at Legal Services of Eastern Michigan with expertise in fair housing and utility cases.

5th Annual Pryder Cup charity golf event to be held at Lochmoor Club
The Wayne County Probate Bar Association and the Macomb County Probate Bar Association will hold the 5th Annual Pryder Cup on Thursday, Aug. 2, at Lochmoor Club, 1018 Sunningdale, Grosse Pointe Woods. Lunch will be at 11:30 a.m. with a 1 p.m. tee time. Cost is $125 per person and includes golf, cart, lunch and hors d’oeuvres after golf. The format is based on the Ryder Cup competition with two golfers from Wayne County competing with two golfers from Macomb County. The winner will be able to designate the charity that will receive the event profits. Participants will be teamed the day of the outing.

Michigan Muslim Bar Association Iftar Dinner set for Aug. 15
The Michigan Muslim Bar Association will be presenting its Iftar Dinner on Wednesday, Aug. 15, from 6:30 - 10 p.m. at the Byblos Banquet Hall at 7258 Chase Road in Dearborn. Guest speaker will be State Representative Rashida H. Tlaib and proceeds will go to law school scholarships. Individual tickets are $30 and table sponsorships are available.
