5 Cooley graduates honored at Women  in the Law luncheon
On Thursday, Sept. 27, five Cooley graduates, including Cooley Associate Dean Amy Timmer, were honored at the 2012 Women in the Law luncheon in Troy. A group of 20 women were recognized as women who stand out in Michigan’s legal profession. The award recognizes and acknowledges the meaningful and inspiring contributions these women make to the legal community and for their excellence in the practice of law.
 Besides Timmer, other Cooley graduates honored at the awards celebration included: Judge Louise Alderson, 54A District Court, Lansing; Audrey Forbush, partner, Plunkett Cooney PC, Flint;  Rebecca Walsh, partner, Reiter & Walsh PC, Bloomfield Hills and Judge Susan Dobrich, Cass County Probate Court, Cassopolis.  Michigan Supreme Court Justice Marilyn Kelly was named Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s Woman of the Year.

CSETB partner named to executive board that supports veterans
Kenneth M. Essad, has been named to the Executive Board of the Veterans’s Outreach Project of Southeast Michigan, Inc. Essad took the lead to incorporate the organization as a 501(c)(3) and will act in a volunteer advisory capacity as Counsel to the Board.
The Veterans’ Outreach Project supports the 17th Judicial District Veterans Treatment Court in Redford. Based on the successful model of drug courts, Veterans Treatment Courts address challenges unique to our nation’s veterans. These specialized courts route offenders into substance abuse or mental health treatment instead of incarceration and provide social services to help them rehabilitate and readjust.
Essad is a founding partner at Corbet, Shaw, Essad, Tucciarone & Bonasso. He concentrates his practice in medical malpractice defense, commercial litigation, family law, automobile negligence and asbestos defense.
