Some five years after its first issue was published, MOTION magazine will suspend publication immediately, it was announced this week by Bradley L. Thompson II, president and CEO of The Detroit Legal News.

The decision to shelve the quarterly magazine was approved by the company’s board of directors at its September meeting, and followed a softening in advertising revenue over the past year coupled with high distribution costs, Thompson indicated.

MOTION made its magazine debut in the summer of 2008, bucking the economic headwinds that were buffeting the Metro Detroit area at the time. The legal lifestyle magazine trained its focus on interesting personalities from the bench and bar, highlighting their works for the betterment of the community while also showing a personal side to their lives that was seldom seen.

The magazine was circulated throughout the Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and Washtenaw County legal communities, and most recently published its fall edition, an issue featuring stories on attorneys accomplished in the fields of aviation, cooking, and in spearheading worthwhile causes.

Thompson said “he has been very proud of our efforts” in publishing the magazine and has been heartened by the “positive feedback” it has received from readers over the past five years. He indicated that the company “would be excited to re-launch should conditions improve.”
