DMBA seeks volunteers to be part of 2014 Judicial Candidate Evaluation Committee

The DMBA is seeking volunteers to participate on its 2014 Judicial Candidate Evaluation Committee.

Members of the Committee will take part in interviews, deliberation and ratings for those Wayne County judicial candidates running in contested elections for the upcoming Primary election.

Subject to conflict of interest guidelines, participation on the Judicial Candidate Evaluation Committee is open to all DMBA members, as well as representatives of other Detroit and Wayne County-based bar associations.  All practitioners are welcome, but there is a particular need for those with experience in the criminal, family and probate courts, as well as the County's District Courts.

Contact Mitzy Sharp Futro at msharpfutro@detroitlawyer.org or 313-961-6120 x201 by June 6 if you have any questions or are interested in volunteering for the JCEC program.

Vote now in the 2014 State  Bar of Michigan elections

The time has come to vote in the 2014 State Bar of Michigan elections. This year, elections are being held for a District H seat on the Board of Commissioners, Circuit 7 of the Representative Assembly and a non-judicial position on the Judicial Tenure Commission.

All active members with an e-mail address on file with the State Bar should have already received an electronic ballot. Included in the message is an embedded link that takes the recipient directly to the voting site and a ballot containing only the races for which the member is eligible to vote.

If you have not received your electronic ballot, please check your spam folder for a message from SBM_Election_Admin@vres.com with the subject line “Vote Now in the 2014 State Bar of Michigan Election—E-Ballot enclosed.” If you determine that you were not sent a ballot, contact Marge Bossenbery at mbossenbery@mail.michbar.org or (517) 346-6327.

All active members who do not have an e-mail address on file should have received a paper ballot.

Non-electronic votes must be cast on paper ballots and postmarked no later than June 16, in accordance with Rules 5 and 6 of the Michigan Supreme Court Rules Concerning the State Bar of Michigan. All votes will be tabulated by VR Election Services and certified by the Board of Tellers by the end of June. Results will be posted on our website.
