 D. Augustus Straker Bar Charity Golf Tournament set for Aug. 11

The D. Augustus Straker Bar Association will host its Charity Golf Tournament on Monday, Aug. 11, starting at 11 a.m. at the Inn at St. Johns, 44045 Five Mile Rd. in Plymouth.  Cost is $135 (per player) and includes 18 holes with cart, soft drink cart, lunch, full course dinner, grand prize for hole in one, along with contests for closest to the pin and longest drive.  Cost for dinner only is $50.

WCCDBA Second Annual Golf Outing scheduled for Aug. 15

The Wayne County Criminal Defense Bar Association will host its Second Annual Golf Outing on Friday, Aug. 15, at the Warren Valley Golf Club in Dearborn Heights.  The 9-hole outing will feature a scramble format and will begin at 2 p.m. The cost for 9 holes of golf, cart, and dinner is $75. Those not playing golf can purchase “dinner only” tickets for $30.  Dinner will begin shortly after completion of the golfing. Foursomes are invited or the WCCDBA will arrange foursomes. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Motor City Blight Busters. Door prizes will be awarded during the dinner festivities.

ISIAL?to host 19th Annual Golf Scramble Augs. 22 in Troy

The Incorporated Society of Irish American Lawyers will host its 19th Annual ISIAL Golf Scramble on Friday, Aug. 22, at Sanctuary Lake Golf Course, 1450 E. South Blvd. in Troy. Registration begins at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start at 11 a.m. Registration includes 18 holes of golf with cart, access to driving range, late lunch at turn, BBQ dinner buffet (keg beer provided, menu items available at extra cost), vouchers for refreshments and/or snacks, awards and prizes (longest drive, closest to pin, best score, worst score, most obnoxious/ugliest outfit), and a commemorative golf towel. Former state high court justices to discuss ‘Money in Judicial Politics’

Three former Michigan Supreme Court Justices, Honorable Marilyn J. Kelly (retired, Wayne Faculty); James L. Ryan (retired, also a former judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit); Clifford Taylor (retired); and renowned reporter Peter Overby of NPR, all explore the First Amendment contours of money as speech.
