Monroe County prosecutors reviewing missing woman case

MONROE, Mich. (AP) — Monroe County prosecutors say they have received a sheriff’s department report about a woman reported missing and found a day later and could decide this week whether to file charges.
Chief Assistant Prosecutor Joseph Costello Jr. says officials are reviewing the report received Monday. It details the case of the 18-year-old who authorities say claimed she was abducted Aug. 7 in Bedford Township, just north of Ohio, and was found safe 16 hours later in the Detroit suburb of Ecorse.
Costello wouldn’t discuss potential charges but says prosecutors have “an open mind.” He added a decision is possible by the end of the week.
Ecorse police have said she lied about being abducted and want Wayne County prosecutors to charge her. A department spokeswoman says officials haven’t received any reports.
