 FBA Law Clerk Committee to host Judicial Family Reunion

The Law Clerk Committee of the Federal Bar Association, Eastern District of Michigan Chapter, will host a Judicial Family Reunion event on Thursday, Oct. 16, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Detroit office of Dickinson Wright located at 500 Woodward Ave., 4th floor.  All current and former law clerks are welcome to join in the reception for all Eastern District of Michigan federal judges (Sixth Circuit, District Court, Bankruptcy, and Magistrate). SBM section presents educational session on franchise law

The Antitrust, Franchising & Trade Regulation Section of the State Bar of Michigan’s Franchise Practitioners Group will host a complimentary, educational session, “Franchise Law Update 2014: Labor & Employment,” on Friday, Oct. 24, from 8:30 a.m. to noon to discuss recent labor and employment developments and their potential impact on franchisors and franchisees.   The session is closed to members of the media, but open to franchisors, franchisees, franchise lawyers, labor and employment lawyers, business lawyers, including in-house counsel, HR professionals, law students, and law professors.  The update will take place at the offices of Jaffe, Raitt, Heuer, & Weiss PC, 27777 Franklin Road, Suite 2500, in Southfield.  To register, contact Sue Robinson at 248-351-3000 or srobinson@jaffelaw.com before Monday, Oct. 20.
 

Symposium to discuss sentencing white collar defendants

This year’s Wayne Law Review Symposium will bring together judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, academic experts and a former criminal Friday, Oct. 24, to discuss the topic “Sentencing White Collar Defendants: How Much Is Enough?”  The free symposium will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Spencer M. Partrich Auditorium at Wayne State University Law School, 471 W. Palmer St. The event is open to the public. Parking will be available for $7 (credit and debit cards only) in Structure No. 1 across West Palmer Street from the law school. The day will include a continental breakfast, lunch and an evening cocktail and networking reception. Register at law.wayne.edu/lawreview2014 by Wednesday, Oct. 15.
