Character & Fitness

University of Detroit Mercy School of Law alumnus Justice Brian K. Zahra (second from right) of the Michigan Supreme Court, who has served on the Michigan Board of Law Examiners, made a presentation to UDM Law students on Wednesday, Feb 4, on the importance of the character and fitness aspects of the Michigan bar application process. The event was hosted by the 3L Day Class, Student Bar Association, and the UDM Law Office of Alumni Relations. Happy to welcome Zahra to UDM Law were (l-r) Avis Choulagh, UDM Law Dean Phyllis Crocker, and Justin Strayhorn. “I’m at University of Detroit Mercy School of Law today to talk about the character and fitness process—predominantly speaking to third year students who are about to file their application to become a member of the bar to take the exam and their affidavit of personal history which requires them to disclose much of their background to prove to the State Bar that they have the requisite good moral character to be a member of the bar,” Zahra commented.
