Debate: Should open carry be allowed in public schools?

WMU-Cooley Law School's Children's Law Society and the Student Federal Bar Association will host a debate about allowing firearms inside public schools on Wednesday, Dec. 2. During the event, "Should Open Carry be Allowed in Public Schools?," WMU-Cooley Law School Professor David Tarrien, who teaches courses in education law, will debate the issues with Adjunct Professor Steven Dulan, who teaches courses in gun law. "Our state's legislature has extensively debated the issues of allowing individuals to openly carry firearms inside public school buildings," said Demar Sheffey, president of WMU-Cooley's Children's Law Society. "With so much discussion about this topic, we feel it is important to have a public forum in the community so we can all be properly informed about the impact." The event begins at 5 p.m. and is open to the public. It will be held at Western Michigan University Cooley Law School, Room 217, 111 Commerce Avenue S.W., Grand Rapids. Published: Wed, Dec 02, 2015
