Scam offering discount by court clerks

The 36th District Court has learned of a scam in which individuals posing as Court employees are targeting citizens, via Facebook and other social media outlets, offering a discount on their outstanding fines. Individuals are instructed to send money to them directly, via Western Union, in order to receive the discount.

The Court would NEVER request payment to be made through Western Union or directly through social media. Any amnesty programs, special promotions, or waivers will be announced on the Court's website and official Facebook page.

The only Court authorized methods of payment are:

- Online Pay Your Tickets Online and enter the applicable information.

- By Mail DO NOT mail cash. Place the citation number on the check or money order and make payable to: 36th District Court, 421 Madison, Attn. Finance Unit, Detroit, MI 48226

- 24-Hour Drop Box Located in the Court Lobby DO NOT deposit cash. Place the citation number on the check or money order and make payable to 36th District Court.

- Kiosks Located throughout the Court Building, accepts cash or credit card.

- Cashier's Window - Open 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Open 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday.

If you are contacted via social media by anyone claiming to be an employee of the Court offering a discount on your fines and costs, please contact your local authorities.
