Get to Know Bo Schimers

Bo Schimers began his law career in 1988 after studying at Detroit College of Law. Prior to entering law, he managed a Fortune 100 company where he developed his practical knowledge and business acumen.Schimers worked for a personal injury firm in downtown Detroit before starting his own law center, which now serves the public in all areas of the law with offices in Southgate, Southfield and Livonia.

He has practiced before the Michigan Court of Appeals and in the Federal District Court, and he appears daily in one of the many district courts or in the Wayne County Circuit Court in downtown Detroit. He is a past president of the Downriver Bar Association and member of the Wayne County Family Law Association.

Residence? I live in Riverview, and was raised in Oak Park and attended Ferndale schools.

Favorite local hangouts? I like going to local festivals, including Arts, Eats & Beats. Is Eastern Market a hangout?

Favorite websites? Wikipedia, Scientific American, Wired.

What is your most treasured material possession? A piece of the Berlin Wall.

What is your proudest moment as a lawyer? Doing justice for the little guy.

What was always written on your grade school report card? Can't remember, but I always sat in back so I could read the encyclopedia instead of doing real work.

What is your happiest childhood memory? Walking freely through hill and dale without being arrested for trespassing.

When you were considering law school, what was Plan B? Becoming a commodities broker in Chicago.

What would surprise people about your job? It's a big world. The number of impossible or crazy questions I get each day.

What do you wish someone would invent? The way back machine so we can peer down from the heavens and see what actually did happen.

When you look back into the past, what do you miss most? All the great musicians who have died.

What is your most typical mood? Upbeat.

If you could have witnessed any event in history, what would it be? The Yucatán meteorite.

What were you doing in your last selfie? I don't do selfies but sometimes I do a photo of my legs dangling over my pool.

Who is on your guest list for the ideal dinner party? So trite: Einstein, Hitler, Woody Allen, Frances Marion, Theodora, Joe Kennedy.

What question do you most often ask yourself? "What is dark matter?"

If you could trade places with someone for a day, who would that be? ASAP Rocky.

What's the most awe-inspiring place you've ever been? The Virgin Islands.

What's something you changed your mind about recently? That people's minds can't be changed. However, you can come close by letting them explain the reason for their position.

What word do you overuse? "Unfortunately."

What is one thing you would like to learn to do? Play the guitar better.

What is something most people don't know about you? It's a secret and I'm keeping it that way.

What is the best advice you ever received? Buy low, sell high.
