The Juvenile Law Committee of the Oakland County Bar Association continued its 2018 Fundamentals of Juvenile Law brown bag lunch lecture series with “The Numbers Never Lie: A Statistical Update on the Michigan Juvenile Justice System” on Thursday, June 14, at the OCBA offices in Bloomfield Hills. Speaking at the program were (left to right) Gregory Bushman, program moderator Melinda Deel of Melinda N. Deel PLLC, Andrew Moore, Terri Gilbert, and Joseph Ryan. The work at the Child and Adolescent Data Lab of the University of Michigan’s School of Social Work helps inform policies in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems. This seminar reviewed the latest statistics used to help welfare agencies—and legal practitioners—learn how children and adolescents move through (and at times between) the child welfare and juvenile justice systems and how these transitions effect their behavior.
