Combat veteran and attorney Michael D. Schloff was keynote speaker and the recipient of the Integrity Award during WMU-Cooley’s “Integrity in Our Communities” speaker series on Nov. 15. The award is presented to legal professionals who demonstrate the highest integrity in their profession.
During his remarks, Schloff spoke about three oaths he has taken during his life—the Marine Corps oath, his wedding vows, and the oath to become an attorney — and how they guide him as an attorney. He explained that conflicts do arise between self interest and client's interests and staying true to the client takes precedent. Schloff also shared the importance of extending the same courtesy you would expect to receive toward opposing counsel.
Quoting WMU-Cooley founder Thomas Brennan, Schloff said, "You know the difference between right and wrong. Do what's right."
Schloff is a civil and criminal trial attorney and owner of Michael D. Schloff PLLC in Bloomfield Hills. Before being admitted to the bar, Schloff was a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps serving in combat during the Vietnam War. He is a past president of the Oakland County Bar Association and has served on its board of directors.
