36th District Court joins Metro Detroit Out of the Darkness Walk

In recognition of National Suicide Prevention Month, Team 36 from the 36th District Court joined thousands of people in Hart Plaza on September 28 to walk, show community support and raise awareness. Employees, friends and family joined Team 36 in the walk and did not let the rain or the many bees stop them. 36th District raised nearly $1,000 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, which is the nation's largest non-profit dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide.

“We want people to know that we are here doing good deeds, raising awareness and helping our community,” said Chief Judge Nancy M. Blount.

“This event is so important for individuals who are struggling, survivors and family to know they are not alone.”

“It was an honor and a privilege to donate, walk with our team and be a part of such a worthy cause,” said Court Administrator Kelli Moore Owen.

“The stories shared by family and friends who lost loved ones to suicide was so very emotional. Most significant, though, was the overwhelming sense of compassion and unity amongst all who participated. There was so much hope, encouragement and support.”

Anyone having thoughts of suicide is encouraged to contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at (800) 273-8255. The Lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources.
