Judge Kelley R. Kostin, 52-2 District Court (Clarkston), held court at WMU-Cooley Law School's Auburn Hills campus on Thursday, October 3. The school's court room, which is used for training students in court procedure, was transformed into a court site for students, attorneys and other members of the public to observe.

The afternoon's docket included criminal arraignments, pretrials, sentencings, probation violations, and a preliminary hearing. The cases presented to the court involved an OWI, aggravated assault, domestic violence, trespassing, and others.

During each court recess, the judge answered students' questions regarding procedure.

"Students noted that it was exciting to see issues they are studying played out in real life," said Assistant Dean Lisa Halushka. "They were amazed how many cases included issues is substance abuse, and were impressed by how compassionate and fair Judge Kostin was."

Kostin was elected to the 52-2 District Court in 2004. She is active in numerous community organizations including the Clarkston Optimists and served as trustee for Notre Dame Preparatory Academy. She was honored by the Chamber of Commerce as Clarkston's Youth Volunteer of the Year. Kostin is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and Oakland County Bar Associations.
