• State Bar of Michigan and Detroit Bar Association: Admissions Ceremony
November 11

The State Bar of Michigan Admissions Ceremony will be held November 11 at 12 p.m. at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center 13th Floor Auditorium, 2 Woodward Ave. Chief Judge Kenny will preside over the ceremony. Detroit Bar President Brian Summerfield will extend an invitation to the newly admitted attorneys to join the Detroit Bar free of charge for one year. The chief judge will begin the actual swearing-in at 12:30 p.m. and all attendees should be seated. • American Constitution Society: Criminal ­Justice Reform event with Val Newman
November 12

The American Constitution Society lawyer chapter and student chapter will host a criminal justice reform event from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, November 12 in Room 335 of the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, 651 E. Jefferson Ave. The event will highlight insight from a recent exoneree, with Val Newman, Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, Conviction Integrity Unit. In addition, criminal justice reform and the Central Park Five will be discussed.

• Stay Tuned (Live) with Preet Bharara featuring Barbara McQuade and Dana Nessel

Barbara McQuade, former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan, will appear along with Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel live on “Stay Tuned with Preet” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 12 at Royal Oak Music Theatre, 318 W. 4th St. in Royal Oak. Preet Bharara served as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York from 2009 to 2017. Now a Distinguished Scholar-in-Residence on the faculty of NYU School of Law, Bharara hosts “Stay Tuned with Preet,” a podcast that focuses on issues of justice and fairness. • DBA to host 15th Annual Dennis W. Archer Public Service Award Gala
November 14

Join the Detroit Bar Association in honoring Hon. Denise Page Hood, chief judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, at the 15th Annual Dennis W. Archer Public Service Award Gala. It will be held from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, November 14 at the Detroit Yacht Club, 1 Riverbank Dr. The cost to attend is $150 per person.
