Steve Loftis was elected chairman of the Board of Directors of the Michigan Restaurant Association (MRA) today. Loftis is a restaurateur and developer in Grand Haven. His restaurant company operates five restaurants in Grand Haven, including Dee-Lite, Jelly’s, Snug Harbor, The Grand, and the Theatre Bar.
Other officers elected to the MRA board of directors include Janet Sossi Belcoure, owner of Detroit’s Roma Café, who will serve as vice chair, and Brad Keen, president and general manager of Boyne Highlands Resort in Harbor Springs, who was elected treasurer.
“We are extremely pleased to have Steve Loftis at the helm as we head into a year of economic transition and government reform in Michigan in 2011,” said Rob Gifford, president and CEO of the MRA. “Steve is a dedicated leader and extremely knowledgeable about this association and the hospitality industry. We couldn’t be happier with Steve as he leads us through this exciting yet challenging period.”
With a new administration taking the reins of state government in Lansing and cautious optimism on the minds of restaurant and tavern operators in regard to the state’s economy, Loftis will lead the association through a period of government reform, and transition in the association and the industry.
“I am humbled and honored to have been chosen to lead the industry that has been so rewarding to me,” said Loftis. “I am eager to get to work to spearhead efforts at reforming our state’s tax and regulatory landscape, as well as to lead this association through a period of growth and transition.”
Restaurants across the state have felt the sting of the recession in recent years, but leaders in the state’s hospitality industry remain optimistic that the state’s job loss numbers will improve. “As chairman of the MRA Board of Directors, there will be no more important priority for me than making sure that we are providing value to our members,” said Loftis.
