Judge Marable's Students of the Month visit Michigan State

Flint 68th District Judge Herman Marable, Jr. announced today that seven of his Students of the Month spent a day on the campus of Michigan State University last week experiencing college life. This is the seventh year that MSU has extended an invitation to Marable’s Students of the Month. These 10th and 11th graders attended classes, met with professors, students, admissions staff, and toured the East Lansing campus.

The university provided transportation and funding for the local mentoring/student encouragement program’s annual visit. Judge Marable, who is an alumnus of MSU said, “I want to thank the university for partnering with us to make this opportunity a reality. I have found over the years that for our kids, this campus visit often is a significant event in getting them focused on preparing for college. When you are in the 10th grade and  hear directly from college admissions officials what they are looking for in future students, you know you have two years to get your act together.”

The Judge Marable Student of the Month/Year program was established by Judge Marable and his Citizens Advisory Committee in 2004 to encourage Flint area high school students to focus on academic achievement and career goals. Each month during the school year a 10th grade student will be recognized and awarded a $75.00 savings bond, trophy, and certificate based on the completion of an application and essay about their career goals. This summer one of the monthly awardees from the 2011-12 school year will be selected as Judge Marable’s Student of the Year and will receive a $500.00 savings bond.

Tenth grade students who live in or attend school in Genesee County, are eligible to apply for the Judge Marable Student of the Month/Year Award.

Further information on the Judge Marable Student of the Month/Year Award and applications are available from high school guidance counselors, principals, or from the www.judgemarable.net  website or by calling 810-597-7795.
