Kyle Caldwell, who for five years served as president and CEO of the Michigan Nonprofit Association (MNA), has joined the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation as program director for its Pathways Out of Poverty grantmaking team.
Prior to MNA, Caldwell was president and CEO of the Connect Michigan Alliance, which focused on promoting volunteerism and civic engagement across the state. In 2007, the Alliance merged with MNA, a statewide organization that seeks to increase the capacity of Michigan’s nonprofits to service, strengthen and transform communities.
Caldwell’s work history also includes serving as executive director of the Michigan Community Service Commission under governors John Engler and Jennifer Granholm, and as director of corporate and foundation relations at the state’s Olivet College.
“Kyle brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience related to the nonprofit sector, as well as a keen awareness of the issues the Foundation is interested in,” said William S. White, president and CEO of the Mott Foundation. “He will be an asset to our poverty grantmaking team, which works to ensure that low-income people and communities around the U.S. have the tools and opportunities to lift themselves out of poverty.”
Caldwell, a Michigan native, earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Western Michigan University, where he studied organizational communication.
The Mott Foundation, established in 1926 by an automotive pioneer, is a private philanthropy committed to supporting projects that promote a just, equitable and sustainable society. It supports nonprofit programs throughout the U.S. and, on a limited geographic basis, internationally. Grantmaking is focused in four programs: Civil Society, Environment, Flint Area and Pathways Out of Poverty.
