D. Augustus Straker Bar Association celebrating 20th Annual Trailblazer Awards

The D. Augustus Straker Bar Association is celebrating its 20th Annual Trailblazer Awards Dinner on June 13, 2013 at the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham, Michigan beginning with a reception at 5:00 p.m. and followed by a dinner program commencing at 6:00 p.m. The theme for this year's event is “Standing on the Shoulders of Giants.”

The following Trailblazers in the legal profession will be honored for their excellent years of service to the Bench and the Bar:

The Honorable Shelia R. Johnson. Judge Johnson was elected Judge of the 46th District Court in November 2002. She is the first African American to serve as Judge in the 46th District Court and the first African American female District Court Judge in Oakland County, Michigan. Judge Johnson is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the University of Michigan Law School.

Earlene Baggett-Hayes, Esq. Attorney Baggett-Hayes is the founder of The Law and Mediation Center, PLLC. An experienced mediator, arbitrator, facilitator, and trainer, Ms. Baggett-Hayes is a leader in the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution in the state of Michigan and nationally. A graduate of Creighton University, and Creighton University Law School in Omaha, Nebraska, Earlene also has a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois.

Lawrence C. Mann, Esq. Attorney Mann is a seasoned trial attorney and partner at Bowman & Brooke in Bloomfield Hills, MI and has a national practice in complex commercial and product liability defense. In addition to his legal practice, Professor Mann was a tenured Associate Professor at Wayne State University Law School. A graduate of the University of Michigan, Larry graduated from Wayne State University Law School with honors where he was a member of the Order of the Coif.

Reginald M. Turner, Esq. Attorney Turner is a highly regarded litigator, lobbyist and civic volunteer. He is a member of the Executive Committee of Clark Hill PLC in Detroit, Ml and a past President of the State Bar of Michigan. Mr. Turner was also President of the National Bar Association. He is listed in the "The Best Lawyers in America" and "SuperLawyers" and he is also a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. Reggie is a graduate of Wayne State University and the University of Michigan Law School.

Now in its twentieth year, the Trailblazer Awards recognizes leaders in the legal community based upon their continuous individual contributions to the betterment of the legal profession. Past honorees include the Honorable Damon J. Keith, the Honorable Julian Abele Cook, Jr., the Honorable Anna Diggs-Taylor, the Honorable Denise Page-Hood, the Honorable Victoria A. Roberts, Attorney Elbert L. Hatchett, the Honorable Dennis W. Archer, Sr., Attorney Saul A. Green, and the Honorable Denise K. Langford Morris. In addition to the Trailblazer Award honorees, the event also awards several scholarships to law students each year and provides invaluable networking and advertising opportunities for all those with interest in the legal community.
