Foley & Mansfield contributes $7,000 to Flint Safe Water Safe Home Fund

Howard Wallach, Managing Partner of Foley & Mansfield's Detroit office, presents a check to Kathi Horton, President, Community Foundation of Greater Flint.

The national law firm of Foley & Mansfield is pleased to announce it has raised more than $7,000 for the Safe Water Safe Homes Fund established by the Community Foundation of Greater Flint in response to the 2014-2016 Flint Water Crisis.

The Safe Water Safe Homes Fund will be used to help replace damaged plumbing and service lines for low-income homeowners, specifically, those with young children in owner-occupied homes.

Spearheaded by the firm’s Detroit office, which is located less than an hour from Flint, Foley & Mansfield employees across the U.S. rallied to raise funds for the Flint crisis. A matching grant was provided by the firms’ charitable arm, The Foley & Mansfield Foundation.

“This is a very  important issue to us,” says Howard Wallach, managing partner in Detroit. “Thousands of people including young children have been adversely affected by the water crisis and deprived of a basic everyday need – clean water,” he added.  While the firm originally intended to provide bottled water to the community, a need the firm learned had been filled, Wallach relayed  this effort would have a lasting impact, helping to ensure the area’s children, the most vulnerable to lead contamination, can look forward to having lead-free water in their homes.

“We are grateful to the employees and leadership of Foley & Mansfield for generously supporting the Safe Water Safe Homes Fund,” said Kathi Horton, President, Community Foundation of Greater Flint. “This gift provides valuable resources for replacement of pipes and plumbing fixtures in the homes of Flint’s most vulnerable residents – families with children age 0-6.”

Firm employees raised $3,622 amongst themselves, with the Foley & Mansfield Charitable Foundation matching that amount for a total of $7,244.

The Community Foundation of Greater Flint will be working with the City of Flint to coordinate the identification of homes, and the work to be done to replace the pipes and other plumbing needs.
