Three Flint area 10th graders selected as Judge Marable's Students of the Month

Flint 67th District Judge Herman Marable, Jr. and his Citizens Advisory Committee announced today that Tyneika London, Ciane Woods, and Laila Shumpert all of Flint have been selected as Judge Marable’s Students of the Month for September, October, and November respectively. These students were selected on the basis of their applications and essays about their career goals.

London, who attends International Academy of Flint, is looking forward to a career as a pediatrician or registered nurse. She is a cheerleader at school.

Woods attends Mott Middle College. She aspires to be a pediatrician and author. Her interests include volunteering at her church, writing, and reading. She plays volleyball at school.

Shumpert, a student at Carman-Ainsworth High School, would like to own a cosmetology business. She is a boxer, and is a member of Students for Christ.

As Students of the Month, each honoree receives a $75.00 prize, trophy, and certificate, and will be invited to shadow Judge Marable for a day at the Court while he performs his official duties. The honorees names have been engraved on a plaque on permanent display at the District Courthouse.

The Judge Marable Student of the Month/Year program was established in 2004 by Judge Marable and his Citizens Advisory Committee to encourage Genesee County high school students to focus on academic achievement and career goals. Each month during the school year a 10th grade student is recognized. At the end of the school year, one of the monthly awardees will be selected as Judge Marable Student of the Year and will receive a $500.00 prize.

Tenth grade students who are Genesee County residents, or who attend public, charter, private, or home schools located in the county are eligible to apply for the Judge Marable Student of the Month/Year Award.

Further information on the Judge Marable Student of the Month/Year Award and applications are available from the www.judgemarable.net website.
