Honorable Judge Jessica J. Hammon presiding over the Genesee County Sobriety Court

Judge Hammon serves as the 67th District Court Judge in Burton. Before taking the bench Judge Hammon practiced in both the Family Drug Court as well as the Adolescent Recovery Court.

“Judge Hammon’s experience with specialty courts made her a natural choice to preside over Sobriety Court,” stated Chief Judge Christopher Odette.

One of Judge Hammon’s long-stated goals for the court and the community is the continued implementation of specialty courts. Sobriety Court serves those who have had alcohol-related offenses and present a need for comprehensive services. Sobriety Court participants are served by a team of treatment professionals, court officers, and community members in order to provide them with every service needed on the path to recovery. To date, the Genesee County Sobriety Court has had 155 individuals graduate the program.

“Specialty courts have a unique ability to help defendants learn the skills needed to stop the cycle which brought them to court. Sobriety Court can especially change the lives of innumerable people by helping those with alcohol issues stay off the road, get much-needed treatment, and mend the issues that brought them to court. I am excited and honored to take on this task, though I do have big shoes to fill. Judge Vikki Bayeh-Haley was a wonderful Sobriety Court Judge and I will strive to continue her high standards for the program,” stated Judge Hammon.

Judge Vikki Bayeh-Haley served in the Genesee County Sobriety Court for 7 years. She will continue with her regularly scheduled docket and is looking forward to focusing her efforts on other facets of the courts.
