Varnum announces new partners

Varnum is pleased to announce that Grand Rapids attorneys Seth Ashby and Gary Mouw have been elected to the partnership.

Seth Ashby is a member of the corporate services and business law group and focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, securities, distressed asset and restructuring, and commercial transactions.

Gary Mouw is a member of the Litigation and Trial Services Practice Group and is experienced in handling both appellate and trial court matters in federal court. Additionally, Mouw has represented clients in a wide range of cases including criminal tax defense, gross negligence and immunity issues, and constitutional claims.

Peterson elected to Miller Johnson management committee

Miller Johnson is pleased to announce that James R. Peterson was elected to

the firm’s management committee for a three-year term. Peterson is a past chair of the firm’s litigation section and also served as Miller Johnson’s assistant general counsel.
Peterson has been practicing law since 1989.  His practice areas include trade secret litigation, employment litigation, commercial litigation, professional liability and unfair competition.  He works primarily with companies handling cases at the trial and appellate levels in the U.S. District Courts (both Eastern and Western districts) and state courts throughout Michigan.
Peterson received his law degree, cum laude, from Wayne State University Law School and his undergraduate degree in 1986 from Calvin College.  He belongs to the Grand Rapids Bar Association and State Bar of Michigan where he served on the Civil Procedure Committee.  He is a mediator with the Kent County Circuit Court and serves as counsel to the West Michigan Better Business Bureau.

Other members of Miller Johnson’s Management Committee are David M. Buday, Kenneth G. Hofman, Stephen R. Ryan, and Craig A. Mutch who is the Managing Member. Peterson replaces Thomas P. Sarb. The committee is the governing body of the firm.
