Patriot Week Foundation launches national library initiative to renew the spirit of America with 20 plus libraries

The Patriot Week Foundation has launched its First Annual National Library Initiative to be held from Sept.11-17 in conjunction with a grant from the Oakland County Bar Foundation.

Over 20 metropolitan Detroit area library branches in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties will display books, magazines, videos, DVDs and other materials relating to Patriot Week’s mission. Libraries will also honor and commemorate current military personnel, veterans and victims and heroes of 9/11. To compliment the materials, libraries will be handing out brochures about the foundation, flyers with Ways to Celebrate Patriot Week, as well as an Educator’s Guide to the Patriot Week Website which features TV lessons and lesson plans for K-12 educators.

Public libraries currently on board include the communities of Auburn Hills, Center Line, Chesterfield Township, Clarkston, Clawson, Clinton Township, Farmington, Ferndale, Highland Township, Madison Heights, Novi, Rochester Hills, Roseville, Troy and White Lake as well as the Adams-Pratt Oakland County Law Library. More libraries are expected to join the initiative over the summer.

Patriot Week renews America’s spirit by celebrating the First Principles, Founding Fathers and other patriots, vital documents, speeches and flags that make America the greatest nation in world history. Responding to the commercialization or loss of meaning of traditional national holidays, Patriot Week invigorates American citizens’ appreciation and understanding of their nation’s spirit. Anchored by the key dates of the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17 (Constitution Day), Patriot Week develops themes and programming for each day during the week. Co-created in 2009 by Oakland County Michigan Judge Michael Warren and his then 10-year-old daughter Leah, Patriot Week has captured the imagination and support of citizens across the nation.
