What would surprise people about your job?
People are most surprised by the amount of time I spend behind a keyboard. While I am in court on an almost daily basis, the majority of my time is spent reading and drafting documents.

What’s your favorite law-related TV show, movie, and/or book?
A Civil Action by Jonathan Harr. One of my favorite classes in law school was Complex Civil Litigation because we read the book, watched the movie, and learned about litigation through the use of the actual pleadings in the Woburn water contamination case featured in the book.

Who are your law role models – real and/or fictional? Atticus Finch is the first and most prominent fictional legal role model to me. I try to bring his demeanor and resolve with me into every courtroom I enter.

What advice do you have for someone considering law school? You should intern for work for a firm in an area you are interested in to see what the day-to-day work is like in that area.

I am extremely proud to be president of the Ingham County Bar Association Young Lawyers Section because I am a part of a great board that has worked tirelessly to host educational seminars, social events, and charitable events benefitting a number of organizations in Ingham County.

What do you do to relax? I enjoy golfing, reading, and spending time with family and friends as much as possible to get away from work. I am also trying to travel more frequently!

What other career path might you have chosen? I think that I would have pursued a career in politics or as a psychiatrist.

What would you say to your 16-year-old self? Keep working hard at everything you do because it will all be worth it one day.

Favorite websites? amazon.com, nytimes.com, google.com, icle.org.

Favorite app? Waze. It is a great GPS app that updates you constantly with traffic delays and alternate routes as you are traveling.

Favorite music? I enjoy everything from Eminem to B.B. King, although I am not a big fan of country.

What is your most treasured material possession?
My watch collection. I rarely leave home without a watch on.

What has been your favorite year so far and why?
2017 has been a great year personally and professionally for me. I have had the opportunity to travel, bring new people into my life, run for office, and begin work on the two most important cases of my career.

What’s the most awe-inspiring place you’ve ever been?
It is a tie between a number of historical sites in Istanbul, such as the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, the Basilica Cistern, and more.

What’s one thing you would like to learn to do?
I’ve been meaning to learn how to play the guitar for years, but can never seem to find the time to practice.

Favorite place to spend money?
Amazon.com. I am not sure what I would do without my Prime membership.

What is the most unusual thing you have done?
Earlier this year I went to Istanbul, for a vacation as my first trip abroad (aside from Canada). Istanbul has an amazing confluence of eastern and western history and culture, and is once again on the verge of significant political change.
