Rhoades McKee expands legal services to Hastings and welcomes Stephanie Fekkes

Rhoades McKee announces an expansion of legal services to Hastings, Barry County and the surrounding communities, and welcomes a new shareholder, Stephanie Fekkes.

“We look forward to providing comprehensive services to Hastings and the surrounding communities.   Centrally located between Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Kalamazoo, Hastings offers us a unique location to connect with individuals and businesses in these West Michigan communities,” stated Paul McCarthy, Rhoades McKee President. “...[T]his expansion provides Rhoades McKee the opportunity to expand services to new clients as well as serve existing clients efficiently at a more convenient location.  We have plans to remodel and expand the office to accommodate additional attorneys and staff.”

Fekkes is an active and integral member of the Hastings community.  With over 25 years there, she is well respected by her peers and the residents of Barry County.

In addition to serving as the Hastings City Attorney since 2005, Fekkes concentrates her practice helping families in Hastings and the surrounding areas navigate life events including divorce, adoption, custody and visitation, estate planning, and probate and trust administration. She also provides corporate and real estate counsel to business clients including real estate acquisitions, development and management.

“By joining Rhoades McKee, I am able to offer a full suite of legal services with a unique, competitive and cost-effective advantage.  Best of all, our office and staff will remain intact as we continue to serve our clients and the community from the same location at 150 West Court Street, Hastings, Michigan.  This allows me to continue living, working, and supporting development opportunities in Hastings, Barry County, and the surrounding communities, “said Fekkes.

A founding member and treasurer of Serenity Village of Barry County, Fekkes also currently serves as President of the Board of Directors of Green Gables Haven, a shelter for victims of domestic abuse that she helped to establish in 2004. She is also a founding and current member of the Women’s Giving Circle of Barry County, and a member of the Ethics Committee, Pennock-Spectrum Health Board, and the Barry Community Foundation Grant Committee.

Fekkes’ prior experience includes serving as the Hastings Assistant City Attorney from 1991-1994, the Hastings City Attorney from 1994-2004, Probate Judge of Barry County in 2004, Special Prosecuting Attorney for Thornapple Township and the Village of Nashville for Code Violations, and Special Counsel for the Village of Freeport for Specific Requested Services.

Fekkes is a member of the State Bar of Michigan Family Law Section, Grand Rapids Bar Association, Western Michigan Estate Planning Council and The Barry County Bar Association, where she chairs Law Day.  She earned her undergraduate degree from Indiana University and her law degree from Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
